Mobility Scooter Delivery – What to look out for

One of the most common questions of potential customers is mobility scooter delivery. Many future owners, when browsing the internet look out for secure deals, that won’t add to them any additional costs. No one wants to experience unpleasant surprises after all. How does Velobike handle it? Learn in this post.

From experience with our customers we understand one thing very clearly. Many of them are people who have some years of life experience and would wish for online purchases to be as simple as possible.

As mobility scooter distributors in the UK and a big portion of Europe, we always strive for transparency. Because of that, our customers can easily view our offer and get all the information. If need arises, we clarify any questions by our chat, email and phone. Those of you, who already have made a purchase know well enough, that often it is our customer support which makes the first contact. We believe this is exactly what all customers would like, and it is a badge of high quality for us.

Hidden costs – what to look out for?

Many companies out there, who deal with online sales, sometimes don’t provide all the necessary details. One of the questions about mobility scooter delivery might be related to the shipping price. Did you know that often such costs can reach up to one-fifth of the price of an actual product?

We believe such a situation would result only in customer disappointment and thus, this does not happen when purchasing from us.

Another most crucial information would be VAT Relief, in case of mobility scooter delivery. From our broad experience, many customers can claim this. Any company that deals with customers who can do so, should provide extensive information on the topic.

Last thing, which are worth mentioning here are warranty and returns policy. Always check it, because some items in case of certain products cannot be fixed on warranty. A good example would be lightbulbs or brake pads in pads. Unless it is a mechanical error from day one or broke down in a week from delivery, all parts which deteriorate over time are not eligible for warranty. This is determined by Trade Law.

How Velobike handles mobility scooter delivery?

At Velobike when we perform mobility scooter delivery, we always make sure to have all information in the open. On our website, information about warranty, return policy and even VAT relief are easily accessible to all of our customers.

In numerous places, like the main velobike website, we inform the customers that our mainland deliveries are free in the United Kingdom as well as the European Union countries.

Some customers, who live on islands might worry about additional costs. In our FAQ section, we explain that the cost of the ferry has been unfortunately covered by customers. That is because we would have to pay for a very heavy truck to cross the water twice to deliver the scooter.

Does it mean it is impossible to get one of Veleco scooters to an island? Not at all. We work with our customers and often arrange with them delivery to the nearest port, to avoid additional ferry costs. This way, the customers often arrange local transportation, which will bring them their new scooter over the water. Since our scooters are charged and ready to drive at delivery, it is never a problem to ride them back home.

Top 5 things to know about mobility scooters

Just for all the happy owners out there, we have decided to write a short guide with the top 5 things to know about mobility scooters. Taking into account the most commonly asked questions, we are going to share knowledge about Veleco vehicles. Continue reading and you’ll gain lots of useful information.

From experience, we know that there are many things to know about mobility scooters. As specialists, we can share this knowledge, so that you will understand your own machine much better.

Without further delay, come and enjoy this short, albeit useful article, it will definitely come in handy.

Ensuring battery longevity

While we already had a handy guide about proper scooter maintenance, there are some things worth mentioning again. In case of batteries the best way to make sure they will keep their voltage is to have them work for a bit, even if the scooter isn’t used for an extended period of time. A vehicle left unused for weeks, can experience a drop in voltage in its battery, resulting in inability to use it when needed.

Does it mean you have to ride your vehicle every day? Not at all, just turn on the ignition key for a minute or two, to let the battery work for a bit at least 2 times a week.

Where to find the VIN number in mobility scooters

A very common question about mobility scooters comes from our customers that need to register the vehicle. All of our scooters come with certificates that contain all necessary information to register them with DVLA.  One of the necessary elements is the VIN number of the vehicle. It can also be found on the attached certificate, but also on the machine in two places.

One would be a small plate which is located under the scooter, near the rear right wheel. Another common place for VIN number location would be on the inside of the front part, near where the user’s legs are when driving.

How to lock the steering wheel

Locking the steering wheel is one of the activities tied closely to scooter security. Thankfully, the manufacturer has made the process very easy to do:

  1. First you have to turn the steering wheel to the left side. In case of ZT63 you might want to try to move it slightly about.
  2. While having done so, with the ignition key in the lock, you have to press it in and then turn it counter-clockwise.

By doing the above, the scooter should be perfectly locked.

Secure boot under the seat

Did you know that your mobility scooter has a secure boot under the seat? As surprising as it sounds, sometimes this storage comes as an unexpected boon to our customers. Not only that, if you look for rain cover, it is the most likely place that stores it on delivery.

About mobility scooters class

Lastly, a very useful info to know about mobility scooters is their class. Are you aware that mobility scooters can be divided into two classes? A class-2 mobility scooter lacks full homologation and is only pavement legal. In case of class-3 though, it is possible to drive on both road and pavement.

Mobility scooter – freedom of movement

For owners of mobility scooter, freedom of movement is the main factor why they use them. In recent years, the popularity of those vehicles grew significantly. Nowadays it is very common to encounter people on them, walking dogs, making groceries in supermarkets and much more. But what truly makes them so special?

With prices ranging from hundreds to thousands of pounds, mobility scooters are one of the most reliable ways to move about. People who felt confined to their homes can now come out, safely driving on either pavement on the road of their towns. Thanks to them, visiting favourite spots is possible again.

If you think that disability or old age make you unable to enjoy life to its fullest, you might be pleasantly surprised. Did you know that some use their mobility scooters to go fishing or even farm? On YouTube, you might find some interesting vlogs promoting outdoor activities, like “Grow Your Own Life”.

No need for a taxi or public transport if you have mobility scooter

This year, many of us try to limit contact with others as much as possible. However, humans are social creatures, and we just cannot skip on visiting family members. The usual way to travel, for people with limited mobility, was often to take a taxi or bus. That however is now something often avoided.

There is no need to seclude yourself in your home. With mobility scooter freedom of movement, paying for taxi or usage of local bus can be skipped altogether. Using them, you will find that they are a much more economic, and eco-friendly way to travel.

Class 3 – safety on pavement and roads

All mobility scooters are made with elderly and disabled in mind. They are the main users of those vehicles, and it is only obvious that comfort and safety are top priorities. Our manufacturer Veleco knows it from years of experience, and they always strive to achieve the best result. Mobility scooter freedom is the main goal to achieve when manufacturing a reliable vehicle of this kind.

Did you know that you can and should also insure your vehicle? We recommend reading our previous post about that, as it has more useful info.

What is mobility scooter insurance?

While at Velobike we do not deal with mobility scooter insurance, we often encounter questions regarding it. This is why just for you, our dear readers, we have decided to cover this topic. We hope that by doing so, we might offer advice in the right direction.

Without a doubt, for you or someone close to you, a mobility scooter is more than a vehicle. It is a means of freedom, which brings back full mobility. From talking with many customers and readers, such as yourself through the years, there is no doubt that our vehicles encounter all sorts of situations.

Being more expensive and useful than bicycles, it is always a great idea to take care of your mobility scooter. It is used daily, so every time you get on, it would put your mind at ease knowing the vehicle is protected.

Do you need insurance?

At Velobike we offer a one-year warranty however such things never cover all bases. Theft, Vandalism & Accidental Damage are just some things that users of mobility scooters have to look out for.

Remember, insurance in case of mobility scooters is always optional. While not required though, we highly would recommend getting one. As an example, if for some reason your mobility scooter stops in the middle of the ride, an insurance company is able to dispatch the driver to get you and the scooter. As you can see, if you own a Class-2 or Class-3 mobility scooter, you can insure it for many events.

Where to get mobility scooter insurance?

While we don’t work directly with companies which offer insurances, they aren’t hard to find. When browsing the internet, it is easy to encounter many insurers which offer such services. Examples of such are: Surewise, Blue Badge or Fish Insurance.

How to get the best deal? The only way is to check various offers, but if it were up to us, we would look at customer opinions first. Google reviews or Trust pilot ones are great sources of information. Speaking of which, have you left a review for us? 😉  You can do so under products in our site, our trust pilot or even google review!

Do it yourself – Take care of your scooter

It has been a while, but do you know how to take care of your scooter? In this blog post we want to focus on simple day to day maintenance checks, which can be done every so often to ensure that your mobility scooter will run as smoothly as possible.

It is very common that proper usage of the vehicle means you should also take care of your scooter. By doing so, you make sure that the machine will perform to its full capacity and extend it’s longevity.

There are numerous ways of proper care and in this short post we have selected the most important and vital ones. They might seem simple enough, but believe us, it’s those small things that are quickly forgotten.

Don’t let nature claim your vehicle

Humanity vs Nature is an ongoing conflict since many years ago. It’s certainly not the first time you have encountered overgrowth or rust which happened due to humidity. The best way to take care of your scooter is to always keep it safe and warm.

You just wouldn’t believe us, how many times we see scooters being left without proper rain cover under heavy rain. Of course rain can always catch up with you as you ride. What to do then? Simply use cloth to get rid of excess water and let the remaining one dry up, before using the vehicle.

Did you know that humidity is often the main cause of squeaking wheels? That is because brake pads become inflated. However, it isn’t anything to worry about, they will return to normal by riding the scooter.

Proper conservation is the key

If you are interested in daily day-to-day conservation, here’s what we recommend at Velobike.

First are the tyres, the most vital part. If you ride daily, they do get used up, so it is always a good idea to check on the pressure. If you lack the proper tools, that can be done at every gas station that you pass!

Speaking of tyres, a good tool to use would be K2 tire-doctor. Not only can it replenish missing air, in case of puncture, it can also fix that up for you. K2 is a product we are familiar with and use them to keep the scooters in pristine, shiny condition, so we really recommend giving those a go!

Mobility scooter tyres – Solid or Air?

One of the key components of every mobility scooter are tyres, solid or air ones. Today in our blog we will discern differences between those two options. This should provide a handy guide for all customers, who wonder which kind of tyres are the best ones.

Making a decision to buy a mobility scooter, the choice between air and solid tyres should mostly depend on your intended use and you as the user. Most brands support only one type of tyres, and at Velobike we do not sell solid tyres for good reason.

However, do not worry, as the wheels in our models are standard size ones. This means that solid tyres can be bought by you somewhere online and any workshop can fit those without trouble. The question is, would they suit your needs?

Which type of tyres are best for mobility scooters?

Unfortunately the choice isn’t easy to make, as there are numerous aspects which you should first take into account:

The quality of the ride – In case of pneumatic tyres, which offer much better shock absorption, air tyres ensure smoother ride. On bumpy roads, solid tyres can make your ride highly uncomfortable.

Durability – There is no doubt that solid tyres seem to be more durable than air ones, because lesser external variables can affect them. They cannot be under or over inflated and the risk of puncture is minimalized.

Combined weight of scooter and its user – In case of heavy scooter combined with the weight of the user, solid tyres longevity might be vastly shortened due to weight impact. Were you to drive on uneven roads, there would be no amortization for the impact unlike in case of air tyres.

Terrain which the user travels on – As can be deduced from earlier points, terrain is often the major factor which influences the longevity of tyres. A gravel surface where there might be glass would definitely make solid tyres better suited for the job. In case of other terrain types though, air tyres would be a much better choice for you.

Price – Air tyres are definitely cheaper and in case of their malfunction, it is much easier to fix them. Fixing a damaged solid tyre would cost you more and often its longevity isn’t much bigger than that of an air one.

What are the consequences of picking the wrong type of tyre?

Imagine a situation, in which you pick solid tyres, deciding they will serve you longer. If the road was bumpy and uneven, the ride would not be smooth for you. At first tremors like that might be something acceptable for you, however, it could cause more problems later on!

While it might not be visible to naked eye, all the electronic cables, lightbulbs, battery and other mechanical parts would be forced to withstand continuous shock. This might cause cables to shift, sometimes unplug from important places or even damage electronics. The end result would be the vehicle shutting down in the middle of travel.

Not only that, your own body might also be enduring similar strain on the way, and as mobility scooter providers who want our users to stay safe, we would never accept that. As you imagine, this is one of the reasons we do not sell solid mobility scooter tyres in our offer. Air tyres are simply healthier to use.
